Minister Flanagan expresses horror at Paris shootings and conveys condolences to the French Ambassador

 

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, has expressed his shock and horror at today’s shooting in Paris.

Minister Flanagan stated:

“Today I spoke with the French Ambassador to Ireland to convey the sincere sympathy of the Irish people. I expressed our solidarity with the people of France following this horrific attack on the staff of a French publication. In particular, I extended our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victims.

“The targeting of a media publication is a direct attack on democracy and freedom, values which we cherish. Such attacks will only strengthen our resolve to vigorously uphold and defend these values in the face of hatred and violence.”

“I hope and expect that the perpetrators of this appalling crime will be quickly brought to justice. I have assured the Ambassador that the Irish Government stands ready to assist in any way we can.
