Minister Charles Flanagan, Press Releases, Latin America, 2016

Statement by Minster Flanagan on Colombian peace process

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charles Flanagan TD, has expressed Ireland’s support for continued efforts to end a 52-year conflict between the Government of Colombia and the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) guerrilla movement.

 Speaking from Paris, he said:

‘Ireland supports Colombia in its efforts to end more than half a century of conflict and ensure a better future for its citizens.

‘We know from our own experience that achieving peace is far from straightforward and I urge all parties to this process to continue to ensure their focus remains on their ultimate objective of improving the lives of the Colombian people.'
